The Area
Many tourists do not want to spend every day on the beach. Luckily,
Plettenberg Bay and the surrounding area offer so many exciting possibilities that
even 10 or 14 days is not long enough to explore everything.
Golfers are lucky; three courses are in the immediate vicinity of
Plett and many others are nearby. And those who want to play on the
world famous Fancourt Course need only one hour to drive to George.
More exciting is the highest bungi jumping in the world.
From a bridge it goes down 200m into the gorge. More relaxed
is a visit to the Monkeyland or to one of the two polo
clubs in town to see a game. For fit sportsmen there are mountain bike tracks
and hiking trails with different challenges. The easiest walk is during low tide
on Robberg Beach (9 kms) and the most difficult one the famous "otter trail" from
"Stormsriver" to Nature's Valley. The hike takes five days. More restful could be
a flight in a motor glider over the bay.
Another possible trip, although the sea is sometimes choppy,
could be a boat ride out in the bay, where you can see dolphins, seals and penguins,
and from July until October the whales come in close.
Those who suffer from
seasickness can go along the romantic Keurboom River.

If you like car trips you are in luck.
Driving around the area around Plettenberg Bay will show you the many faces
of the area. It is not only a coastal area with steep cliffs and smooth dunes,
there is also the forest with the giant Yellowwood trees, the tableland
with shrubs
(fynbos) and flowers, the deep canyons (Stormsriver),
the bare mountains of Tsitsikamma or
Outeniqua and the charming "moon landscape" of the desert (Kleine Karoo).
And in between one can find thriving human settlements. Each area has its
own charm and that is the charm of the whole of South Africa.
We would like to mention two attractions: We recommended already Monkeyland.
But if you want to see more animals and you do not want to go 1500km to the
Krugerpark then Plettenberg Bay offers only within a distance of 10km Knysna
Elephant Park (where you can go close to the animals and feed them), the Rhino
Base Camp (they have lions now), Buffalo Hill, and a snake farm

A real adventure is a sailing trip through the Knysna lagoon to the open sea. The sun set in a strong breeze you will never forget

The official
homepage of Plettenberg Bay (click here) offers many details about lots of activities.
